4th & 5th- Recorders
EVERYONE, please fill out the form at the TOP of the page and return to Miss Burton or to the Classroom teacher.
This form will be the first “participation grade” in Music 2016-2017. DUE AUGUST 14-18, 2017
As part of this year’s music curriculum, your child will be learning to play the recorder. The recorder is a wonderful way to introduce music reading and ensemble playing- it is one of the best ways to prepare students for a middle school instrumental and choral experience. Students will have note fingering, music reading, worksheets and songs that they will be learning in music class. I also hope to post audio samples of our recorder playing on our music blog. If you would like to follow our “Musically Marvelous” blog, or subscribe to our Music Remind 101, please see below. Looking forward to a great year in music class!
I plan to begin incorporating soprano recorder instruction into our lessons starting on September 11th, 2017.
I STRONGLY SUGGEST /URGE you to purchase a recorder for your 4th & 5th graders. All across Cobb County, students will be learning recorder, I suggest that you obtain one sooner than later- as many stores were sold out last year.
If possible, please avoid ones from a toy or bargain store as they most likely will be of lesser quality. If dropped they tend to break easily
********If your family foresees difficulty in obtaining a recorder please contact me directly via email or by calling our school. I have a small amount of recorders that students can borrow and sign out IF you are unable to purchase one.
*******PLEASE LET ME (MISS BURTON) know if you want your student to borrow one- it will be a first come, first serve sign up period. Fill out form below. ***If you would like to BORROW a recorder for the school year, it must be returned May 1st. ***
Soprano recorders are reasonably priced. Normally, they are under $5. They can be purchased at local music stores such as Ken Stanton Music, Jackson’s Music, Dirt Cheap Music, Guitar Center, AND online. West Music has an excellent assortment of recorders starting at $1.95! Check out www.westmusic.com for more info. There are many available! Some recommended brands are Yamaha, Gill, Aulos, Lyons, Peripole. The Peripole Angel German Halo Recorder is one of the best student models available but costs more than most others.
